Classical Chinese furniture developed over thousands of years. Fine lacquered wooden furniture was being produced from the times
of the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). Through the many dynasties, Chinese furniture took on many different transformations in accordance with the tastes of the time. Although Chinese furniture differed in style through the many dynasties, one constant feature of Chinese furniture through the ages is it's master craftsmanship. Classical Chinese furniture peaked aesthetically in the Ming
(1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

Ming Style Chinese antique furniture is characterized through simplicity and elegance with fluent lines and appealing proportions. Qing style Chinese antique furniture in contrast is larger and more imposing with elaborate carving and inlaid decoration. These two types of furniture differed greatly in style, but each reached a high level of artistic success and this is why this style of furniture is so sought after.

The Chinese reproduced furniture are of the same master-craft quality, but lacks the age factor. There is also a great price difference between the antique and reproduced items.
